A demanding crossing to neighboring Mallnitz Valley via the ancient Römerweg (Roman trail) with a train trip back through the Tauern Tunnel in Böckstein is one of the hiking highlights of the whole Gastein. Another trail starting right from Marienstein goes further up the Anlauftal valley towards the mighty Ankogel with 3.252m at its end and makes for an easier but equally rewarding scenic tour.
